Hong Kong, China
As Hong Kong’s oldest tertiary institution, the University of Hong Kong has evolved from humble beginnings to become a global leader in academic and research excellence. HKU is committed to fostering leadership for impact, strengthening our global presence and adaptability, while continuing a century-long tradition of pursuing truth and knowledge to shape a better world.
The University of Hong Kong, established as Hong Kong College of Medicine for Chinese in 1887 and as the University of Hong Kong in 1911, is ranked 1st in Asia in the QS Asia University Rankings and 11th globally in the 2027 QS World University Rankings.
HKU has a strong international reputation for both teaching and research and offers a comprehensive curriculum, with 57 distinct undergraduate programs spanning the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, business, medicine, and law. English is the primary language of instruction, making the university accessible to international students while also offering opportunities for Chinese-language study at multiple levels.
The University of Hong Kong offers an academic environment of exceptional quality and remarkable breadth. As one of Asia’s top-ranked research universities and a leading institution worldwide, HKU maintains rigorous standards across all its faculties. The vast majority of its coursework is conducted entirely in English—not only in the programs ÈËÆÞÓÕ»ó currently offers but across a wide range of disciplines that ÈËÆÞÓÕ»ó does not, including medicine, law, engineering, architecture, and business. This means that ÈËÆÞÓÕ»ó students can engage with the full intellectual life of the university without language barriers, while still finding themselves immersed in a genuinely multilingual and multicultural environment. Perhaps equally valuable is the character of the student body itself: HKU enrolls students from across Hong Kong, mainland China, and dozens of countries worldwide, and the friendships and professional relationships that ÈËÆÞÓÕ»ó students form here—with future lawyers, financiers, scientists, and policymakers from across Asia and beyond—are the kind that can prove meaningful long after the semester ends.
HKU is a ÈËÆÞÓÕ»ó exchange partner. Students must be officially nominated by the IPO Director in order to apply. If interested, please After nomination, students must submit the application for consideration.
